Google rolls out GNI Advertising Lab for news publishers in India

American tech giant, Google LLC has recently announced the launch of Google News Initiative (GNI) Advertising Lab program for supporting small and medium-sized news publishers that generate original and accurate news for regional and local communities in India.

The key focus of this program is to improve digital infrastructure to elevate digital advertising revenue via customized training and analysis headed by expert consultants; and deployment of hands-on technical support for online asset optimization.

Shilpa Jhunjhunwala, Head of India News Partnerships & APAC News Programs, wrote in a blog post that they are delighted to launch the GNI Advertising program, which will help small and medium-sized news publishers in India.

The initiative, intended for newsrooms with up to 100 employees, will focus on technical and product training for teams and technical implementation to support increased digital ad income.

She further stated that approximately 800 smalls to medium news publishers would be chosen under this program and work collaboratively to help them optimize and set up their content management systems, websites, and ad settings.

Notably, the previous two years have been difficult in many ways for individuals and companies across the world. Therefore, the firm has launched several initiatives this year to meet the requirements of both startup news firms and large-scale news publishers in these changing markets, she stated.

Applicants will be requested to fill out an online application form with information about their business, digital ambitions, and other data.

The news organization must be small and medium-sized, create original content, and be incorporated or registered in India to be eligible for the Google News Initiative Advertising Lab program.

Applicants must have a website that has been up and running for at least 12 months to be considered. In addition, journalists must work in newsrooms that employ between 2 and 100 full-time employees (FTE).
