Twitter launches a central hub for privacy and data protection info
New website will host information on Twitter’s new privacy products and announcements
Twitter is also looking to change its current data protection and privacy terms
Twitter has recently launched a new website called Twitter Privacy Center. Sources aware of the development stated that the new resource aims to act as the central hub for everything related to the privacy and data protection efforts of Twitter.
Supposedly, the general data protection regulation (GDPR) of the E.U. may have also allegedly prompted Twitter to launch the new initiative.
Apparently, the new website will host information on Twitter’s new privacy products, initiatives and announcements. It will also divide the information according to users or partners.
Sources close to the matter stated that the user section of the website will direct users to the company’s terms, account settings, privacy policy, service providers amongst others. The website will host dedicated pages for California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), GDPR and Global Data Processing Addendum (DPA).
The social networking giant informed that the entity serving the European Economic Area is Twitter International Company and not Twitter. The company further stated that it is moving people outside the E.U. and U.S. to Twitter Inc. This change will provide Twitter to test settings, features and different set of controls for E.U users alone.
Reportedly, Twitter will also change its recent data protection and privacy terms which will primarily be focused on three aspects. These will be based on; updating the older systems, building privacy for newly launched products and accountability of the company’s activities.
According to industry experts, the newly launched Twitter products will be reviewed by Twitter’s Information Security, Office of Data Protection and Product and Privacy teams.
Damien Kieran, Twitter's data protection officer, will provide Twitter's board of directors with an independent assessment of all work related to privacy and data protection to ensure that Twitter remains on track every quarter.
Notably, social media companies including Facebook and Google have been scrutinized by the EU Antitrust Committee on data protection issues.
