TotalEnergies commences its UK Offshore Wind Hub in Scotland
French oil and gas major, TotalEnergies SE has inaugurated its UK Offshore Wind Hub in Scotland which will be part of the company's existing offshore operations center in Aberdeen and allow employees to shift from oil and gas to offshore wind.
The launch was done by Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies. The company has a long history of investing in energy projects in Scotland and the North Sea, says Mr. Pouyanné.
TotalEnergies is pleased with the success of the relationship with Scotland and the shared accomplishments, particularly in the offshore industrial growth. They view Scotland as a key area to extend their partnership by investing in offshore wind as the energy revolution accelerates.
The choice to locate UK Offshore Wind Hub in Aberdeen, as a global multi-energy business with a long history in UK energy delivery, demonstrates the belief in the future of renewables in the UK and the firm's continuing commitment to Scotland and the North Sea, added Mr. Pouyanné.
TotalEnergies, in collaboration with Macquarie's Green Investment Group and Scottish developer Renewable Infrastructure Development Group (RIDG), has proposed a 2 GW offshore wind project named West of Orkney Windfarm through the ScotWind leasing round.
The partners announced a GBP 140 million effort as part of an action plan to enhance the Scottish supply chain and port infrastructure, particularly for this project.
Before making a final investment choice, this investment will be made at the early stages of development. It will be supported by direct commitments from partners for GBP 105 million, augmented by matched investment from third parties generated by partners up to GBP 140 million.
These efforts will assist the consortium to meet its goals of delivering up to half of the project's content in Scotland during the project's lifetime through industry collaboration, with a commitment to 60% in the UK.
