Tesla unveils its first solar EV charging station in Lhasa, China

U.S. automaker, Tesla has reportedly inaugurated its first charging station along with its solar and energy storage facilities in the city of Lhasa, China. In a statement, the EV maker told sources that the base station in Lhasa will generate electricity using solar power and preserve it in energy storage facilities for charging electric vehicles.

For the record, Tesla entered the solar market in 2016 with the purchase of California-based solar energy company, SolarCity for $2.6 billion. The automaker has also expressed plans to expand its energy business. Some of its solar services include a power generating system, called Solar Roof, which looks like roof tiles and Powerwall, a system that can store power produced by solar panels.

Extending its reach in the AI landscape, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, announced recently that the company is considering having an AI Day in a few months, during which the Silicon Valley tycoon will showcase advancements in AI software and hardware with the goal of hiring new aspirants.

Musk’s latest strategy to promote Tesla's technology comes as the firm battles to achieve complete self-driving technology. Earlier, Musk was poised that its car will be capable of driving without human intervention by this year.

However, recently, Tesla told the California Department of Motor Vehicles that it might not be able to execute full self-driving technology by the end of 2021. The manufacturer is being examined by a California regulator, who is looking into whether it broke the law by deceptively advertising its autonomous vehicle systems as full self-driving.

The driver assistance feature made by Tesla, dubbed "autopilot" or "full self-driving," is meant to make conventional driving easier. However, these features do not make the car completely autonomous.
