Teladoc Health announces acquisition of France-based MedecinDirect

Virtual care provider Teladoc Health has announced that it has acquired France-based telemedicine provider MédecinDirect to expand its international business. Teladoc will combine its virtual care services with strong and established local medical operations of MédecinDirect and hopes to benefit more people across France by providing virtual care services, as Teladoc is already stable to capitalize on favorable market conditions.

This deal is expected to be closed in first half of this year, but financial terms of the deal were not disclosed yet. It is stated that acquisition will be immaterial to the financial results of Teladoc Health.

MédecinDirect will become the French country unit of Teladoc Health with existing operations in United Kingdom, Australia, Portugal, Chile, Brazil, Spain, Hungary, China and Canada.

As reported by Teladoc, France has increasing demands for accessible high-quality healthcare services like other countries around the world. Consumers are being more aware about virtual care and the recent regulatory changes have been positive about virtual care reimbursement. This has ripened the market to adopt virtual care. MédecinDirect has well-established client base in France and partnership with almost half of the 30 private medical insurers (PMIs) and more than 40 leading insurance companies.

Francois Lescure, CEO and co-founder, MédecinDirect, reportedly stated that they have enjoyed success in virtual care market and after acquisition with Teladoc Health they are expecting to reach more people and offer more care needs to improve healthcare across the country. With Teladoc Health, MédecinDirect has plans of transforming healthcare accessibility, Lescure further added.

Carlos Nueno, President of Teladoc Health International, noted that the company has a vision of global expansion and with focus on this, Teladoc will become leader in France’s healthcare market and will immediately impact delivery of healthcare in France. He added that Teladoc will bring full suite of virtual care services with support of strong base achieved by MédecinDirect, to multinational clients who have been willing to expand.
