Sony announces launch of new Inzone gear to fast-track PC gaming push

Sony Group Corp has reportedly launched the Inzone line of monitors and headphones focusing on the surging PC videogames market as the conglomerate seeks to cater beyond its core PlayStation audience.

Sony, whose PlayStation 5 sales were affected by supply chain disruptions, announced a shift towards rolling out more mobile and PC titles as subscription services.

The Inzone line is developed by a unit outside the primary gaming business of Sony. It aims to use Sony’s display and audio technology, areas where the conglomerate is retaining its competitiveness despite the company transitioning as an entertainment giant spanning music, movies, and games.

The headphones deliver sound that helps gamers locate in-game enemies. The wired model is priced at USD 99.99 in the United States whereas the noise-canceling wireless model is priced at USD 299.99.

The monitors, promising a high refresh rate and crisp visuals, cost USD 529.99 whereas the 4K version is priced at USD 899.99.

The Inzone gear aligns with the PlayStation 5 design and is backward-compatible with the console.

Meanwhile recently, Sony asserted that its expansion of the PlayStation Plus service will deliver hundreds of games, including the latest hits like Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The service will be offered for a flat monthly fee when it unveils in June in Europe, Japan, and the United States.

Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, remarked that the service will exclude new releases. But gamers can still get mega titles like God of War and Returnal.

Sony is widely considered a leader in the gaming consoles market. It sells 17 million units of PlayStation 5 despite chip shortage impacting its production. But the company is under immense pressure to compete against gaming subscription models like Netflix.

The upgraded Sony service consolidates the existing PlayStation Plus, which has over 48 million subscribers, with PlayStation Now, which has around 3.2 million users.
