SK Telecom partners with Microsoft on 5G, AI and cloud technologies

Microsoft and SK Telecom have reportedly signed a business partnership in February for cooperation in the smart factory business.

SK Telecom recently announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Microsoft, the American technology giant, to implement the Joint Innovation Program. The comprehensive partnership program aims to explore innovative and sustainable business opportunities with partners in several areas.

Under the MoU, both the companies will plan to jointly push for Internet of Things (IoT)-related business, like smart factories. They will also enhance their competitiveness in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and related services, and in media and entertainment services.

Reportedly, SK Telecom has been collaborating with Microsoft to combine fifth generation networks with AI and cloud computing technologies to explore new business opportunities.

According to reliable sources, the combination of SK Telecom’s new information and communications technologies including AI and 5G, and AI and advanced cloud computing technologies of Microsoft will create synergy.

Park Jung-ho, CEO, SK Telecom, reportedly stated that it is necessary to partner with global companies like Microsoft to take leadership in the highly contested 5G market. The company will put full efforts to build new value through a combination of capabilities of both the companies, he further added.

Microsoft and SK Telecom have reportedly signed a business partnership in February for cooperation in the smart factory business. Under the collaboration, development and updates of the big data system, Metatron of SK Telecom will be carried out on Microsoft’s cloud platform Azure.

Both the companies will apparently continue to expand their cooperation to more diverse IoT areas.

Both the companies will put efforts to develop distinguished products and services by combining AI platform Cortana of Microsoft and NUGU AI platform of SK Telecom to enhance their competitive edge in artificial intelligence.

SK Telecom and Microsoft will continue to discuss promotion of innovation together in media and entertainment areas.
