Sanford Health to expand patient care with new orthopedic hospital

Sanford Health, the largest rural healthcare in the U.S, has disclosed plans to expand its orthopedic care with the commencement of a new site of the orthopedic hospital on the 7th of June. As per sources, it will be the tallest building on the health system's campus in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

This novel facility is expected to be built between Sanford Children's Hospital and the surgical tower, leveraging a 208-foot crane, the highest ever used on a Sanford Health site.

The Sanford Orthopedic Hospital will have:

  • New space of 161,000 sq.ft
  • Remodeled space of 44,000 sq.ft
  • Inpatient rooms - 19
  • Operating rooms - 12
  • Medical suite rooms – 56
  • A novel intraoperative MRI machine offering near real-time imaging throughout procedures
  • Orthopedic placement program

Sanford Health's orthopedic surgeon, M.D. Kristofer Kimber said the new hospital would grow continuously owing to Sanford's robust orthopedic residency program. The hospital is in its 4th year of orthopedics and sports medicine residency program, and he claims this building would aid in making the program more competitive.

Dr. Kimber also said that the new medical suites of the hospital will have rooms like hotels for families and will certainly provide a difference in the healing process of patients.

He said that the new addition would simplify the feeling of staying in a hospital, getting out earlier, and returning home more quickly.

This new room addition will help bring more care to the rural region for additional patients irrespective of their ZIP codes, said the president of Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, Paul Hanson.

The firm can expand its services using the hiring efforts in the communities where it does not have a strong presence today but may in the coming future, said Mr. Hanson delightedly.
