Rogers Communications launches 5G network services across Canada

 


	The network will first be implemented in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa
	Rogers has collaborated with Ericsson to provide the required technology to develop the network


Rogers Communications – a Toronto based telecommunications company has reportedly announced the deployment of 5G network services across certain cities in the region making it the first cellphone provider to extend super-fast network services in Canada.

For the record, Rogers aims at launching the services first in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa before expanding it to over 20 more markets by the end of the year.

Joe Natale, CEO, Rogers Communications was quoted stating that 5G is the leading technological revolution ever since the introduction of wireless in Canada. The company is focusing on building right partnerships and deploying advanced yet reliable technology to provide superior 5G services to the nation, he further added.  

Apparently, the 5G network will comprise of high-speed internet, fast enough to download a movie in seconds on a smartphone. Additionally, it will also allow businesses to smoothly operate ‘smart factories’ that use sensors, connected robots and devices.

Rogers has partnered with Swedish telecom firm Ericsson to provide the required technology to develop the network platform.  The launch of 5G services puts Roger ahead of its competitors like Telus Corp. and Bell Canada, the nation’s two most prominent telecommunications companies.

In a statement published by Bell, the firm is set to launch similar early stage 5G network services as soon as devices are made available.

In 2017, the top five telecommunication companies in Canada accounted for 85% of the broadcast and telecommunication sector’s CAD 67.6 billion i.e. USD 50.8 billion in total revenues in the country.

Rogers Communications aims at entering into a global alliance with other key telecommunication companies from across the globe in order to coordinate on the use of 5G services.

Other companies part of the 5G Future Forum include South Korean KT Corp, U.S. company Verizon, Australia headquartered Telstra, Vodafone in Europe and Mexico’s América Móvil.

The Forum is expected to ensure that the 5G networks provided by various service providers in different countries will carry the ability to seamlessly communicate with one another.
