OPPO India unveils new camera lab at its R&D center in Hyderabad

The lab will focus on developing new solutions to address difficulties associated with night videography and more 

Consumer electronics brand, OPPO has recently announced opening a new camera innovation lab at its R&D branch in Hyderabad, India, where it will develop new features and camera solutions using AI technology and imaging software to improve user experience.

In a statement, OPPO said that its camera lab will develop new solutions to address difficulties associated with night videography, different adjacent light & light temperatures, and more.

OPPO India’s VP and Head of R&D, Tasleem Arif stated “While the organization seeks to improve users' overall camera experience, the focus of this lab is on classifying global solutions and inventing new solutions that can be globalized”.

As per sources, the lab will direct innovation for other countries, including Japan, South Asia, MEA (Middle East Asia), Europe, and Africa. It will also work on developing video and still photography solutions and research into Full Dimension Fusion (FDF) Portrait Video System technology.

Recently, OPPO applied for over 8,800 picture patents worldwide and had over 3,500 awarded patents. It claims that the lab is dedicated on testing phone cameras in a variety of artificially created scenarios and analyzing the data generated from those samples.

Kaushal Prakash Sharma, Head of Camera Division, R&D OPPO India, mentions that they would tweak and develop a much more realistic dataset using state-of-the-art equipment and deliver advanced quality photography and video shooting experience.

In July, OPPO had entered into a partnership with Instagram to launch a campaign in a bid to search for India's new generation of videography artists. The campaign called #EveryEmotionInPortrait with #RenoShowReels, will use sponsored material from Instagram producers to promote the recently released Reno6 series.
