NextGen amid plans to become a Qualified Health Information Network

By Pankaj Singh

NextGen Healthcare, a leading innovative, cloud-based healthcare technology solutions provider, has recently announced that it plans to apply to become QHIN (Qualified Health Information Network) under the TEFCA (Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement) to underline the firm’s commitment to interoperability.

Once given the nod by the ONC (Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology), a regulating body that supervises QHINs, the designation will empower NextGen Healthcare to be a part of the network of organizations that work together on a national scale to share clinical data.

Under the TEFCA model, the information can be exchanged with other QHINS, expediting a flow of information crucial to interoperability.

For the unversed, NextGen Healthcare supports 100,000+ providers with its ambulatory EHR (electronic health records) and PM (practice management) solutions, along with one-third of HIEs (health information exchanges) coupled with tools that drive interoperability.

This is the first stint when an ambulatory-focused solutions provider has announced its intent to become a QHIN.

Speaking on the move, David Sides, President & Chief Executive Officer, NextGen Healthcare, mentioned that interoperability is vital for the complete health of a person and NextGen Healthcare already holds a strong foothold for facilitating the open exchange of data.

Apparently, the company’s commitment to interoperability is demonstrated via NextGen® Share, a cloud-based solution that offers access to several national interoperability networks, along with other major services.

Utilizing the NextGen’s several years of expertise as a Carequality interoperability framework implementer, this reliable platform will empower NextGen Healthcare to establish a QHIN successfully.

Furthermore, once established, QHINS will encourage the exchange of payment, treatment, public health, and other health-related data.

Meanwhile, NextGen Healthcare’s QHIN is said to be vendor agnostic, which implies that it could support the company’s clients and users of other EHR systems, HIT technology developers, HIEs, and other healthcare participants.
