Motorola Solutions buys WatchGuard to expand video security portfolio

WatchGuard’s solutions allow law enforcement users to manage high-quality video evidence

Motorola Solutions, Inc., the US based data communications and telecommunications equipment provider, has recently announced the acquisition of WatchGuard, Inc., a leading provider of mobile video solutions for law enforcement. Details regarding the transaction were not disclosed yet.

Sources close to the matter informed that WatchGuard manufactures and designs body-worn cameras, in-car video systems, evidence management systems and software. Its vital solutions allow law enforcement users to manage, capture, store and share high-quality video evidence.

WatchGuard’s solutions seemingly increase the accountability and transparency, while improving trust between communities and law enforcement agencies serving them, which lessens agency liability and advances the judicial process. The company’s products are manufactured at its Texas headquarters.

According to Senior Vice President of Video Security Solutions and Motorola Solutions, John Kedzierski, an integrated and secure mobile video solution is able to improve efficiency and safety for public safety users.

WatchGuard delivers industry-leading capabilities, starting from capturing an incident from over a dozen vantage points to technology that allows users to retrieve and upload videos from events, hours or days after they occurred, Kedzierski said.

Sources further mentioned that the acquisition is projected to grow mission-critical ecosystem of Motorola Solutions, expanding its platform of video security solutions that include advanced analytics and fixed cameras from Avigilon and license plate recognition cameras and software from Vigilant Solutions.

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of WatchGuard, Robert Vanman stated that this acquisition allows the company to continue offering market-leading mobile video solutions for current customers as well as leveraging global footprint of Motorola Solutions and augmenting the reach of video security solutions portfolio.

For the uninitiated, Motorola Solutions is a worldwide leader in mission-critical communications. Its technology platforms in command center software, communications, video security solutions and managed and reinforce services make cities safe and allow businesses and communities to thrive.
