Miromico, Renesas unveil partnership to produce new LoRa-based module

By Mateen Dalal

Miromico and Renesas have recently confirmed that the companies have collaborated and produced a low-power and compact FMLR-61-x-RSS3 module that will allow customers to connect to LoRaWAN-based networks easily. The module is reportedly based on LoRa devices as well as wireless radio frequency technology.

Supposedly, networks based on LoRaWAN are observed to be quickly growing throughout Europe. The new module gives customers access to microcontrollers (MCUs) along with a large production-grade software package, by employing the Renesas Synergy Platform.

According to Renesas, engineers are able to employ the S3A6 MCU on the new module for handling numerous tasks, while streaming data to the cloud seamlessly across a LoRaWAN-based network. For long distance applications up to 50km, the LoRaWAN protocol is considered to be rapidly becoming the de facto standard for connecting IoT devices securely and flexibly.

The company informed that the FMLR-61-x-RSS3 module has sufficient memory to enable engineers to add several of their own functions and most of the MCU signals would be available at the module level for making them accessible externally. Allegedly, specifications of the module make it suited for both rural and urban sensing applications like asset tracking, metering, security, building automation, predictive maintenance, wearables, among many others.

The S3A6 MCU is ideal for a broad range of battery-operated applications, Renesas stated. The component is part of Renesas’ large MCU portfolio, making it easier for scaling up to more functionality or scaling down for optimizing costs.

For the record, the Renesas Synergy Platform consists of the Synergy Software Package (SSP), which includes a vast assortment of production-grade software. SSP consists of the ThreadX RTOS and many related middleware like USB stack, file system, application frameworks, GUI software and functional libraries for DSP functions and encryption. This vital combination of software and hardware helps customers to accelerate their product development schedule significantly.
