Lune’s API to help customers fund carbon neutralization projects

By Mateen Dalal

Lune, a startup that aims to debunk CO2 emissions calculations and make every service and product climate positive by default, is offering its API to companies so that they can allow their customers to pay a fee to finance carbon neutralization projects.

Before establishing Lune with Roberto Bruggemann, its Co-Founder Erik Stadigh worked for VC fund Crane from which Lune secured funding of $4 million in a seed round.

Apart from Crane, 15 professional angels joined in the round, like Fredrik Hjelm - the Voi co-founder; Maximilian Tayenthal - the co-founder of N26; and Tony Jamous - OysterHR & Nexmo co-founder.

Erik Stadigh claims that the way things run now is that the companies build a sustainability report hidden away on the website, and very few people read it.

Lune first helps to measure the impact of carbon. As always, those are just predictions. It then offers automated carbon emission calculations and follows the best practice guidelines.

Once the API is integrated into the product, customers can choose to pay a bit more to subsidize compensation projects. The firm collaborates with carbon offset developers across the globe.

Moreover, Lune also directly works with payment companies, like TrueLayer. When it’s time to checkout, customers can select a green payment method that will contribute to carbon offset projects.

From the merchant's perspective, Lune customers can either choose to pay for those projects or allow customers to pay an extra fee. Lune is already speaking with other payment cohorts to offer more payment integrations.

It charges will be based on the calculations numbers, and it also takes a small cut on carbon offsetting transactions. The startup via its API wants to turn any company into a climate-friendly company.
