Leading biz players combine R&D efforts to achieve net-zero ambitions

Amidst burgeoning climate change and growing carbon footprint concerns, several initiatives spearheaded by major players worldwide are in play. Recently, innovation leaders from seven globally leading companies have teamed up to address the net-zero goals.

Reportedly, the initiative will infuse technical and scientific expertise in order to foresee the net-zero ambitions of the initiative led by Science Group Sustainability.

The initiative will witness R&D, and science & technology leadership contributions from Mars, Protector & Gamble, PepsiCo, packaging expert Amcor, along with chemical companies like Solvay SA, and Stepan Company, and Bayer’s crop science division.

The collaborated effort is aimed at establishing key principles to enable material progress on carbon reduction with the shared belief that the complexity associated with net-zero ambitions and other sustainability goals needs all kinds of sectors, companies, and disciplines to join forces.

Speaking on the global initiative, a member of the forum emphasized on the importance of addressing climate change with net-zero goals and targets, even if they seem unreachable to certain entities.

Strategic initiatives are important to achieve significant milestones in the short term rather than relying entirely on technological advances to solve the climate problems.

It is worth noting that the group met consistently for a span of 12 months in line with the Science Group Sustainability CTO Forum to assess crucial challenges obstructing carbon reduction and discussed potential ways to solve them.

Altogether, ten principles were identified over the period of 12 months, to help companies in their journey to transition into net-zero, ranging from articulating carbon and other sustainability themes in order to ensure that carbon impact is an important part of innovation.

The Science Group Sustainability has unveiled a Net Zero Playbook and released a brief outlining the strategies discussed by the seven parties. It demonstrates the impact of R&D function in unlocking new pathways to address climate change and prioritize carbon emissions reduction.

Moreover, the net-zero initiative showcases a maturity model that covers a comprehensive overview of the ten principles determined, which can be embraced by companies to execute their carbon plans.
