IPICOL (Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha) and GAIL (India) Limited have recently entered into an MoU for cooperation in the fields of green hydrogen, green ammonia and renewable energy (solar/wind) for producing eco-friendly fuels in Odisha.

According to an official statement, the MoU inter-alia scope includes preparing a feasibility study for setting up proposed plants. The MoU also underlines promoting eco-friendly fuels production in the state.

It has been mentioned that Green Hydrogen would aid industries in reducing the aggregate emissions of GHGs (Green House Gases), hence supporting the Central government's INDC targets.

Moreover, being a state of power supply, Odisha is looking forward to strengthening its footmark in the power sector. These upcoming plants will support the heavy industries based in Odisha to complement their growing power requirements.

Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Asit Tripathy, said that the whole world is trying to lower carbon emissions. Still, it requires a lot of support, energy and intent to implement these massive changes and the state is very keen to help the firm with suitable land and other solid support.

Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary to Odisha government, Industries department, admired the vigorous interest of GAIL in setting up Green Hydrogen plant.

He further added that Odisha comprises a very large pre-existing market for hydrogen at present. With this combined determination to produce the bulk of green hydrogen, the cost related to green hydrogen will be reduced for the industrial consumption.

While speaking on the latest accomplishment, MV Iyer, Director (Business Development), stated that the firm emphasizes on developing natural gas infrastructure and clean energy projects in Odisha and the rest of the country.

GAIL is placing the natural gas pipeline in Odisha, placing a CGD project and planning to set up a coal gasification plant in JV mode, said Iyer.
