GM predicts Chevy Bolt EV sales to pick up despite fire recalls

American automotive giant, General Motor (GM) has recently claimed that its electric Chevrolet Bolt model sales will increase regardless of a high-profile recall as several vehicles caught fire.

Steve Majoros, Vice President of Chevrolet marketing, said that the firm is witnessing a record number in sales and production for the financial year 2022, and it hopes 2023 to be bigger than its previous year.

GM at present is bullish on both EUV and EV. The automaker resumed the production and shipments of Bolt EV and a larger EUV version this week. At the Michigan plant, the production of vehicles has been down since August as every produced vehicle at the factory since 2016 was recalled by the automaker.

The recall occurred as GM found two rare manufacturing shortcomings in the Li-ion battery cells of the vehicle’s battery pack, which could cause a fire. GM knows about 19 vehicles that caught fire due to this problem, said its spokesman.

The recall and fire have caused a significant challenge for GM in terms of its reputation and EV sales, even though its battery supplier, an LG company, took the blame for the issue.

From this week, GM will be attempting to relaunch the Bolt models to American buyers with a new national campaign run on television for the cars, said Mr. Majoros.

He further notified that they possess massive awareness and interest in this, adding that the advertisement will have a significant presence on the first day of Major League Baseball.

Mr. Majoros called it an arm’s race and said the expectations regarding the Bolt sales are high due to the rising interest of people in EVs, as it can be connected to record gas prices this year nationally.
