Fingerprint Cards AB (Fingerprints™) has seemingly dominated the biometrics industry with its unique and innovative products. However, in a move to utilize the vast untapped market of biometric access control, the company has recently announced the extension of its fingerprint touch sensor portfolio, for logical and physical access applications and devices.

Reportedly, the new access control series will involve two additional capacitive touch sensors, namely FPC1024 and FPC1020, featuring a small physical footprint and high biometric performance. The sensors are said to be water resistant and could be used in devices that require smooth and secure means of authentication. Moreover, they are rigged with unique features that enhance user experience whilst consuming low power.

Thomas Rex, Senior Vice President of BL, Smartcard & Embedded, Fingerprints, claims that their firm has adapted its unrivaled and deep experience from the world of smartphones to its sensor devices. Their products are designed for a low-computing-power access environment. With its comprehensive access offering, Fingerprints is constantly working to fulfill the requirements of a wide range of new access control use cases.

As per sources, the access sensor series integrates Fingerprint’s proven technology to make life simple for end-users and device makers. Prior to this news, Fingerprint Cards made headlines when it collaborated with Valid, a renowned provider of payment technology, to innovate new contactless biometric payment cards.

Apparently, the card, which was exhibited in Money 2020 USA, includes Fingerprints' T-Shape™ module, a division of the 1300-series. These cards are designed to be incorporated in smartcards with the help of standard processes and even has ultra-low power consumption features.

According to Rex, Valid is a path-breaker in the global secure payments market and has a solid presence in Latin America and the U.S. The company is thrilled to partner with Valid and is looking forward to seeing T-Shape being incorporated into all the five prominent payment smartcard suppliers in the world.
