ElaadNL comes up with a PoC for IOTA-driven smart power grid for EVs
The PoC apparently depicts the ability of smart grids to generate and consumer power, and then redistribute the same autonomously among community members.
The reputed Dutch technology conglomerate ElaadNL has made it to the front page for apparently having developed a PoC (Proof of Concept) for a smart power grid for EVs. Trusted reports claim that the PoC is built using the IoT-centric IOTA Tangle technology.
As per sources familiar with the knowledge of the matter, the Proof of Concept in question demonstrates the capability of smart grids to generate and consumer power, and then redistribute the same autonomously among community members. Based on IOTA’s Tangle technology, that is known to purportedly enable charging devices decide autonomously if there is any requirement to aid grid load balance, the initiative is speculated to be one that might revolutionize the power industry, as per experts.
Credible reports claim that the charging stations are liable to earn IOTA tokens – by charging electric vehicles at off-peak times or at lower speeds. An official statement explains that the grid in this Proof of Concept will help connect all the devices to a specific grid area, while the transformer continues supplying energy. If any one or more devices lower their energy usage, they would receive some of the tokens of the IOTA cryptocurrency.
According to an official press release by ElaadNL, Harm van den Brink, DLT (distributed ledger technology) expert, ElaadNL, has been reportedly quoted to have said that this PoC depicts a plausible electricity system of the future, where the energy will be shared among neighbors and decentralized islands will be more than able to balance themselves. Touting ElaadNL’s initiative to only be the debut step in the direction of efficiently consuming and producing electricity, Brink claims that it would require a lot of development to actually put this in practice – of effectively harnessing energy at peak times, though it is indeed possible.
ElaadNL, for the uninitiated, is a technology company set up in 2009 with the intent of developing EV infrastructure and providing smart charging for the EVs. Apparently, the firm has established close to 3,000 public charging points in the Netherlands since its establishment.
