Dangote Cement acquires 2,000 trucks to enhance distribution network

Dangote Cement Plc, a multinational publicly traded cement manufacturer based in Lagos, Nigeria, has rolled out over 2,000 trucks for distribution services. With this move, the firm will address the challenges associated with the distribution of cement across the country.

Sources claim that the company took delivery of trucks, tippers, cargo trucks, trailers, bulk cement tankers, and bulk tankers following an investment of $150 million. This investment would help meet the rising demand for cement transportation to every part of the country and offer employment opportunities to 4,000 people in Nigeria.                                         

Moreover, the recently acquired trucks are estimated to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Dangote Cement Logistics’ distribution network in the region, as the firm intends to employ its new cement factory in Okpella Edo state in the coming weeks.

Speaking on the acquisition, Alhaji Abdu Dantata, Group Executive Director – Logistics and Distribution, Dangote Industries Limited, said that this move aligns with the new cement plant at Okpella and new expanding capacity in Obajana, Ibese, Gboko. 

He added that the procurement is due to the rising needs of the business, specifically regarding the increased trucking demands which were encountered recently owing to rising requirement for cement.

Establishment of the firm’s clinker export terminals at Onne and Apapa Port resulted in the acquisition of heavy-duty tippers for hauling clinker from the facilities to the terminals. He continued that the introduction of these vehicles would increase client demand, job creation and boost economic development in Nigeria.

Reports claim that the Sinotruk Howo locally assembled trucks were delivered as semi-knocked-down kits (SKD), which were later assembled and employed for operations. Meanwhile, Dantata, who supervises the group's logistic and transportation functions, remarked that Dangote Sinotruk would continue to import semi-knocked-down kits into the assembling plants to meet customer demand and boost job creation in the country.
