CVS Health plans to recruit 25,000 people ahead of flu season

American healthcare company, CVS Health Corp. says that it will hire up to 25,000 people for clinical and retail job positions ahead of the flu season at a time when administration of booster COVID-19 vaccination jabs are underway in the United States.

According to CVS, majority of the job positions will be for part-time, full-time and pharmacy technicians, temporarily licensed pharmacists, and nurses. It is also searching for workers to help run its retail locations.

As per sources, CVS recently increased its minimum hourly salary for employees as stores around the country try to retain and recruit more workers amid a countrywide labor shortage caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Between November and January 2021, CVS, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and other pharmacies that intend to administer booster shots are expected to see increased traffic, placing businesses under additional pressure to recruit and retain staff.

CVS claims that its virtual recruiting drive on Sept. 24 will enable it to administer booster vaccines and pending regulatory clearance, at a time when it is continuing to offer COVID-19 testing and vaccines to people who haven't been inoculated.

The Biden administration had intended to make booster injections readily available in the week of Sept. 20. However, last week, the U.S. FDA opposed broader clearance, suggesting that booster shots should be used only for Americans of age 65 and older and those at high risk of serious disease.

Reportedly, CVS has supervised more than 34 million COVID-19 vaccines and over 32 million tests. It had claimed last year that it would be recruiting approximately 50,000 employees to help customers and patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. In its last quarter of 2020, CVS hired around 15,000 more people.
