Cimic's UGL wins renewable and utility contracts worth $296 Million

UGL, a diversified engineering company based in Australia, has secured a contract for design and works of 88MW solar farm in outback Queensland and the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract for an 87 MW solar farm in South Australia as part of a works package which is expected to deliver a combined revenue of around $296 million.

Elaborating on the details, the awarded design contract and works for the 88 MW Mica Creek Solar Farm project is being established near Mount Isa in regional Queensland following the APA Group’s (a Australian natural gas and electricity company) recent decision to move ahead with stage two of the renewable energy project.

As per sources, UGL has been selected to undertake the construction and design work at the $150 million projects, including the solar farm, transmission line and substation.

The company's work with Mica Creek Solar Farm will clash with the works stage two of the Tailem Bend Solar Farm in South Australia amid UGL secured the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract for the project.

The EPC contract for the 87 MW second stage of the Tailem Bend Solar Farm and associated substation upgrade works was awarded to UGL by the Singapore-based developer Vena Energy.

The project of $200 million, which is to be constructed in line with the effective 95 MW Tailem Bend Solar Farm about 100km north of Adelaide, also includes requirements for a 40 MW BESS (Battery Energy Storage System).

Doug Moss, UGL's managing director, said that the company which lately finished work on the Wallgrove Grid Battery project in New South Wales (NSW) and the Victorian Big Battery project in Victoria, is one of the most recognized brands for Australian renewables projects and in the construction and design of high-voltage transmission lines.

The Mica Creek project is said to be the third solar project of UGL for APA Group, and Tailem Bend 2 project is a constant work they are completing together with Vena Energy.
