AON3D raises $11.5 Million in funding; collaborates with Astrobotic

AON3D, a Canada-based company that manufactures industrial 3d printers for making thermoplastic aircraft parts, has announced raising $11.5 million in Series A funding round as well as collaborating with space robotics firm, Astrobotic Technology on the Peregrine Moon Lander (PM1) mission.

The investment round was led by SineWave Venture and included participates like Y Combinator Continuity, BDC Capital, AlleyCorp, Panache Ventures, EDC, MANA Ventures, top social-media influencers Griffin Johnson and Josh Richards, and renowned Silicon Valley angels.

According to AON3D, the funds will be used to support 3D printing research and development, hiring new talent to support company growth and provide clients with best-in-class support to meet their 3D printing demands.

After Apollo 17, the Astrobotic mission will be the first-ever US lunar lander to soft-land on the moon.

The mission will onboard hundreds of 3D printed parts from the industrial AON3D M2+, with the potential to be the first additively made end-use parts to reach the moon.

The lunar hardware contains 3D printed bracketry components, such as fittings within essential avionics boxes, which manage the lander's mission-critical command and data handling.

The capsules of the DHL MoonBox, a lightweight vehicle used to deliver space-freight payloads for private consumers, were also built using AON3D technology.

The MoonBox is created to survive harsh conditions of space and keep valuables secure on the moon's surface. AON3D provides printers to more than 250 customers in 25 countries, including Blue Origin, NASA, and the US Air Force.
