AMP deploys its first recycling robotics systems in the Ireland & UK

By Vikas M

AMP Robotics, a company that develops artificial intelligence and robotics systems for the recycling industry, has deployed its first AI-guided robotics systems in Ireland and the UK with Recyco, a prominent recycling and trash management company in Northern Ireland.

As per sources, AMP has installed a single AMP CortexTM unit and a tandem unit on Recyco’s fibre lines for controlling the quality to enhance pick charges and bale purity.

Recyco is the first initiative closed with REP-TEC Advanced Technologies, AMP's newly designated official reseller and integrator for customers in the UK and Ireland.

Gary Ashburner, European General Manager for AMP, said that the company is excited to introduce its first robots to the UK and Ireland. It continues to see high demand for AI and automation solutions and expand its pipeline in Europe.

Mr. Ashburner further said that Recyco has been an excellent partner throughout this development and recognizes that the technology addresses the chronic recruitment challenges that many recyclers face while aligning with Recyco's goals of increasing landfill diversion, maximizing recovery and advancing sustainability.

As per credible sources, AMP's patented technology uses computer vision and deep learning to guide high-speed robotics systems in accurately identifying, differentiating, and recovering recyclables located in the trash stream, recording data about each item it detects.

AMP's sorting system can gather up to 80 items per minute, nearly double the speed of a human sorter, and its tandem units can pick up to 150 things per minute.

The company's AI platform can promptly adapt to new packaging entering the recycling stream, including brand recognition capabilities. This is critical as the need for high-quality recycled material rises to satisfy consumer packaged goods firms' goal to employ post-consumer recycled content.

Additionally, AMP currently has over 160 systems deployed worldwide, with North America, Asia, and Europe represented.
