Amazon, Greenko expedite oxygen supplies to India amid critical shortage

While India is currently facing the wrath of the second wave of corona-virus due to acute shortage of oxygen concentrators, various companies have forward to help the country get back on track. Amongst these are Hyderabad-based Greenko Group, and one of the leading e-commerce giants, Amazon.com.

Reports suggest that the companies have been ramping up the supplies of oxygen concentrators to the country as the shortage of these has been aiding a prolific rise in the mortality rate of India currently due the world’s worst coronavirus outbreak.

Amazon.com is said to be working with the sellers on its marketplace to help them procure about 9,000 oxygen concentrators for customers in the Indian sub-continent.

In fact, a company official mentioned that the first batch of 1,000 concentrators has already arrived the country and are available for purchase while the remaining are anticipated to come by the second half of this month.

Meanwhile, Greenko, one of India’s leading renewable energy companies, reported that it has airlifted the first set of 1,000 large medical grade oxygen concentrators.

Commenting on the recent move, Greenko’s CEO Anil Chalamalashetty stated that the delivery of 1,000 concentrators would help the country’s medical teams in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities for pre-ICU support and post-ICU stabilization of critical patients.

For the record, India is observing a surge in demand for portable oxygen machines as the country’s healthcare facilities are stretching beyond the breaking point. With healthcare facilities forced to petition courts when they were crucially low on oxygen supplies, oxygen concentrators have emerged as an indispensable line of defense for COVID patients recovering at home.

Most importantly, India has temporarily scrapped off import duties as much as 20.4% on the oxygen cylinders earlier this month post the red tape prevented life-saving medicines and equipment from reaching the people in need.
