Akesis unveils its advanced Galaxy™ RTi and Gemini360 at ASTRO 2019

The healthcare company will showcase its drugs in the ASTRO annual meeting 2019 that could help offer improved efficiency and confidence in treatment delivery. 

Akesis, Inc., a hospital and healthcare company based in the U.S. that offers innovative radiation medicine, will demonstrate two of its approaching progressive solutions, namely the Akesis Gemini360 * and Akesis Galaxy™ RTi*, at the ASTRO (American Society for Radiation Oncology) 2019 Annual Meeting held in Chicago.

According to reliable sources, the company had prior revealed that the Akesis Galaxy™, a gamma SRS (stereotactic radiosurgery system) with a constant 360° rotational technology, obtained 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

However, the future generation of Akesis Galaxy, RTi will integrate real-time, kV/kV imaging and in-line CBCT for enhanced confidence and efficiency in treatment delivery. It will also provide the option of frameless, fractionated SRT (stereotactic radiotherapy) or high-precision SRS.

Reportedly, the platform uses only 30 gamma sources, potentially reducing downtime and reducing the cost of ownership during source replacement while granting almost endless options to shape dose distribution, compared to traditional, fixed-sector delivery.

Sources cite that Akesis is implementing a platform approach for the Galaxy series, that will let treatment centers to choose the model with the features and functionalities they require to fulfill particular needs. This makes the Galaxy RTi a perfect system for smaller cancer centers, value-based reimbursement models and high-throughput institutions.

Speaking on the move, Volker Stieber, Chairman of the Board, Akesis, said that the company feels that the radiation medicine will create a major disruption in the market, and the firm is determined to spread the benefits of superior radiation treatment to everyone around the globe.

He said that the company believes in its in-line imaging, never-ending commitment to value and patented rotational technology will establish a new standard in radiation medicine.

As per reports, Akesis is advancing its new linear accelerator, the Akesis Gemini360, which will feature the similar patented rotating gamma technology from the Galaxy but positions it on a ring gantry. Moreover, the Gemini360 will include a conventional 120 leaf MLC and 6 MV LINAC head, aimed to offer the user with the flexibility and capability of a traditional radiotherapy treatment machine.
