The acquisition is expected to boost Agilent’s digital capabilities for enhancing lab productivity
American instrument manufacturing company, Agilent Technologies has announced the acquisition of innovate artificial intelligence (AI) technology by Virtual Control, an AI and machine learning-based software developer that specializing in novel solutions for lab testing.
As a part of the technology takeover, Agilent will embed its industry-leading platforms for gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS) with ACIES software to boost productivity, elevate efficiency as well as accuracy of high-throughput labs worldwide on Agilent’s list of clienteles.
The acquisition saw a transfer of software and key assets associated with ACIES from Virtual Control to Agilent followed by the addition of core ACIES team members into Agilent’s employee group after the transaction.
Essentially, the ACIES software automates the otherwise labour-intensive procedure of GC-MS data analysis, facilitating faster and more efficient laboratory workflow across all key tasks, right from sampling to reporting.
Agilent intends to combine the technology with its MassHunter software package to enhance efficiency of LC-MS and GCMS instruments.
The analytical instrumentation developer claims that a spectrum of industries and diverse use cases stand to benefit from Agilent’s technology acquisition, including applied materials, environmental research, and food testing along with scope for expansion into other extensive markets.
Reportedly, the technology acquisition underpins Agilent’s latest initiative in digital tech to scale up lab productivity.
Moreover, it is in line with the company’s suit of investments and innovations driving transformation of its analytical lab capabilities with advanced tech, deploying more efficient lab workflow, and ensuring seamless integration of instruments and data.
Imperative to note that Agilent’s portfolio-services, instruments, software and trusted expertise-serves across applied chemical markets, life sciences and diagnostics, remunerating the company which showcases employee strength of 17,000 worldwide, with $6.32 billion revenue in FY 2021.
